Picture Archive Councel of America
Mission Statement

“To foster and protect the interests of the picture archive
community through advocacy, education and communication.”

Purposes:
  To develop useful business standards, and promote ethical business practices
  To actively advocate copyright protection and copyright education
  To collect and disseminate accurate information relevant to the members, their contributing artists and clients
  To take an active role in the developments affecting the picture archive community
  To build and maintain relationships with other professional organizations and related industries

Goals in support of Purposes:
To develop useful business standards, and promote ethical business practices

1.   Business standards – actively support development of Picture Licensing Universal System (PLUS).
2.   Actively support DISCo and publish this recommended standards.
3.   Review, revise and publish the PACA Code of Ethics.
4.   Review and update all forms as needed.
5.   Publish and report on updated forms to membership.

To actively advocate copyright protection and copyright education

1.   Develop a copyright education presentation for students and other organizations and make available to membership.
2.   Actively disseminate the copyright registration materials to our members.
3.   Develop a copyright education seminar for PACA representatives to present in large event forums. Report on presentations.
4.   Pro-bono copyright registration campaign via website (to be created and executed by the Marketing Committee.)
5.   Figure out how to best serve our membership through licensing enforcement efforts.

To collect and disseminate accurate information relevant tothe members, their contributing artists and clients
1.   Create a PACA marketing piece containing our position statement (who are we, what we are) for both prospective members and for art-buyers.
2.   Post/Maintain the schedule for PACA newsletter update information.
3.   Conduct the Annual International Conference.
4.   Conduct the Annual Meeting.
5.   Obtain additional sources of industry information to better serve our members.
6.   Conduct a PACA Survey on a regular basis.
7.   Have committees meet and report information on a monthly basis for our newsletter update.
8.   Expand and enhance “PACAtalk.”
9.   Attend and have a presence at tradeshows/conferences such as How, PhotoExpo, PictureHouse, Creativity, Print, Stretch, and the NY licensing Show.
10.   Ensure that PACA is advertised/written-up in relevant industry trade publications through PR efforts.
11.   Create a searchable membership listing on our website.
12.   Enhance our clerical efficiencies through functional website that can handle e-commerce for taking conference registration and paying dues.
13.   Develop cooperative buying advantages for our members.

To take an active role in the developments affecting the picture archive community

1.   Create an industry watch committee/sub-committee to monitor and report developments affecting our industry. Use the information to help and inform our members.
2.   2. Stay current with legislation and lobby efforts that effect our industry.

To build and maintain relationships with other professional organizations andrelated industries

1.   Invite presidents/officers of other industry trade associations to attend and participate in our Annual Meeting.
2.   Create a list of target organizations (such as MPAA, RAII) to liaise with and develop relationships with that further the interests of our industry.
3.   Send a PACA representative to other organization meetings.
4.   Maintain contacts/relationships with relevant companies and industries.
5.   Target a cooperative meeting with other photo industry trade organizations such as American Society of Professional Photographers (ASPP), America Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), Stock Artists Alliance, (SAA) etc.
6.   Review and recommend the viability of a paid technical advisory for the membership.

General Goals:

  To sustain membership growth.
  To maintain proper financial and accounting records and a sound financial condition for the organization.
  To periodically review and establish goals in furtherance of the purposes stated above.
